Colorful Indian Pre-Wedding Photography. Hiren + Neelam.
The days leading up to Hiren and Neelam’s Indian wedding were filled with energy, laughter, and color—it truly set the tone for everything to come. One of the most exciting things about an Indian wedding is how the celebration begins well before the actual ceremony. These pre-wedding traditions bring families together, keep culture alive, and build anticipation in the most joyful way.
Haldi Ceremony
Hiren and Neelam’s pre-wedding events began with the Haldi ceremony—one of the most vibrant rituals in Indian culture. Friends and family applied turmeric paste to the couple’s skin, believed to bless the couple with glowing skin and protection from negative energy. It was loud, playful, and filled with love—yellow everywhere, upbeat music, and happy chaos.
Mehndi Night
The next day was all about the Mehndi. Neelam’s hands and feet were adorned with beautiful henna designs, each detail a symbol of joy, luck, and love. Close friends and female relatives gathered for this intimate event, sipping chai, chatting, and watching the intricate patterns take shape. One sweet tradition: the groom’s initials hidden in the bride’s design, which Hiren had to find later.
Sangeet
The Sangeet was the ultimate celebration. Think vibrant lehengas and kurtas, choreographed family dance performances, live dhol drums, and non-stop dancing. It wasn’t just a party—it was a full-on performance and the perfect way to bring both sides of the family together before the big day. Emotions ran high—in the best way—and it made for some of our favorite moments to photograph.
These three events—Haldi, Mehndi, and Sangeet—are what make an Indian wedding so unique and rich with meaning. Capturing them for Hiren and Neelam was an absolute honor, and a reminder of just how beautiful these traditions truly are.
